Plans submitted for 1,000 new homes in Bradford

A £150 million scheme to create an urban village in Bradford has moved forward after developers submitted planning applications to build 1,000 new homes.

Covering more than 30 hectares of land, the New Bolton Woods scheme for Canal Road also comprises a new local centre that will include a new food store.

The submission of two planning applications has seen the culmination of two years of design work and public consultation carried out by Canal Road Urban Village Ltd, a joint venture partnership created by regeneration specialists Urbo Regeneration Ltd and Bradford Council to create a New Bolton Woods.

Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, Bradford Council’s portfolio holder responsible for the New Bolton Woods scheme and director of Canal Road Urban Village, said: “The New Bolton Woods scheme is designed to deliver much needed new homes and job opportunities for local people whilst also providing supporting infrastructure, stimulating business growth and investment in this key part of the city.”

If planning permission is granted, work to create the urban village featuring public spaces, play areas and shops will begin in spring 2015. Phase one of the development began last year when 50 new homes were built off Poplars Park Road.

Peter Swallow, a Canal Road Urban Village director said: “We don’t want to create a brand new community, rather we want to expand and enhance what is on offer in an established area.”
