Plans unveiled for 15-year development of seafront

THIS is how the seafront at Withernsea could look in the future under a new blueprint for the resort’s development over the next 15 years.

Residents are being invited to have their say on the Withernsea Renaissance Plan, which has been developed by the Withernsea and South East Holderness Regeneration Partnership.

It focuses on two priority improvement zones, the seafront and promenade area and Queen Street, and provides a framework for future development and investment projects in the town.

The plan builds on past studies and existing plans, including the town plan, as well as the consultation carried out in Withernsea in November 2010.

Coun Arthur Hodgson, chairman of the regeneration partnership, said: “This is a great opportunity for people to see the plan and give feedback on what they think of it. It’s important that the local community shares a vision for the town and has strong aspirations for its future.”

Work is already under way on a new £960,000 commercial fisheries boat compound on the seafront, jointly paid for by East Riding Council and the European Fisheries Fund.

The council is also to spend £472,000 on improvements to Queen Street, where work is expected to get under way in spring. The intention is to make the area more attractive to shoppers and pedestrians.

The renaissance plan is on show at the Pavilion Leisure Centre until September until next Tuesday, and then at the Shores Centre from Wednesday until October 4. Comment forms can be posted at the venues until October 18.
