Plaque honoursHolocaust rescuer

A plaque commemorating a Swedish diplomat who rescued tens of thousands of Hungarian Jews during the Holocaust was unveiled on a wall of the British Embassy in Budapest yesterday.

British Ambassador Greg Dorey said that in November 1944, Raoul Wallenberg rented the third floor of what then was a Hungarian bank and used it as one of many safe houses he set up around Budapest to shelter Jews and carry out his work.
