Plastic fantastic as model fans out in force at Yorkshire show

MODEL enthusiasts from across the country travelled to Yorkshire for one of the biggest shows of its kind.

The Wakefield and District International Plastic Modellers Society branch hosted the model show yesterday at Huddersfield Sports Centre. It is the third largest model show in the country and attracts model traders and model club members from across the North of England.

Club members came from Rotherham, Sheffield, Keighley, York, Bridlington, Manchester, the Lake District, Nottingham, Tyneside and Merseyside to show their carefully crafted creations.

The scale models included more than just the usual planes, trains and automobiles.

There were military models, coastal crafts, Airfix, hot rods and custom cars.

On a military theme, there were scale models of various kinds from the United States Air Force, United States Navy, the Luftwaffe and the Royal Air Force.

Among the traders present were Halifax Modellers World, Oakwood Studios and Klassic Kits.

Colin Bebbington, the secretary of the Wakefield and District branch of the International Plastic Modellers Society, said the event had raised money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, although the exact amount had yet to be finalised.
