Playground ban warning for parents

PARENTS are facing a ban from their children's school playground after a headmistress sent a letter home warning them about their bad behaviour in front of her pupils.

Vicky Helliwell, of Kingston Primary School in Carlton in Lindrick, near Worksop, said she was fed up with people swearing, shouting, arguing and smoking when they dropped off and collected their children and warned action would be taken.

In her letter, Ms Helliwell said four parents had removed their children from the school because of the poor behaviour of some adults in the yard.

Ms Helliwell said warnings had already been given and added: "Following a meeting with the governors, it was agreed that no more warning letters would be sent out. I will act immediately to restrict access to the site of any adult whose behaviour is what I consider to be inappropriate."

The headteacher said she had been threatened personally on several occasions and added it was unreasonable to expect her staff to tolerate aggressive behaviour.

One parent, who asked not to be named, said there was "unhappiness" among parents at the way the school was being run by Ms Helliwell, who took over in January 2009.
