Plea for closure on 17th anniversary of murder

TODAY is the 17th anniversary of one of Yorkshire’s most sinister unsolved crimes.

Lindsay Jo Rimer disappeared from the streets of Hebden Bridge, at the age of 13, after buying cereal for her family at a Spar supermarket in Crown Street at 10.22pm.

She never returned to her home in Cambridge Street and five months later her body was recovered from the Rochdale Canal, a mile upstream from the town centre.

Detective Superintendent Colin Prime, of West Yorkshire Police’s Major Investigation Review Team, said yesterday: “We continue to seek the vital pieces of information that will bring closure to the investigation and for Lindsay’s family.

“It may be that someone has harboured a suspicion for all these years.

“With the passage of time, someone who was unable to come forward and speak to us 17 years ago might be in a position to do so now. I would strongly urge them to get in touch.”

Anyone with any information which could help the enquiry should contact police on 0845 6060606 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
