Plea to give back stolen phone of war hero father

POLICE are urging a thief to return the phone of a hero soldier’s dad, stolen while he was collecting for Armed Forces charities.

The Blackberry phone, which holds images of the owner’s late wife, who passed away recently, and his son, currently serving in Afghanistan, was stolen as he collected on behalf of Help for Heroes at the Morrisons supermarket on Castlegate, Malton, North Yorkshire.

PC Ray Thwaites, of Malton safer neighbourhood team, said: “The images on the phone are utterly irreplaceable and treasured memories. I urge the thief to examine their conscience and hand the phone in immediately.”

Witnesses can contact police on 0845 60 60 247.
