Plea over man attacked by stranger

THE wife of a man assaulted in his driveway by a “complete stranger” has appealed for the public’s help to bring his assailant to justice.

The 49-year-old suffered bruising to the head and body when he was attacked at his home on Low Catton Road, Stamford Bridge.

The victim had spotted two men in a white Rover when he went to open his garden gates at about 7.40am on August 25.

As he walked back to his house he was pounced on by one of the men from behind. His assailant ran back to the Rover and the pair drove off.

Police want to speak to anyone who witnessed the assault or saw the man being dropped off near the bus station on Garths End, Pocklington.

The victim’s wife said: “My husband was just going about his everyday business when he was assaulted by somebody who we believe was a complete stranger.

“This has shocked all of our family and caused us all great hurt and upset.”

A 24-year-old man and a 28-year-old man were arrested and bailed while inquiries continue.
