ONE of the region’s biggest health trusts yesterday appealed to family and friends to keep hospital visits to a minimum after seeing new cases of the winter vomiting bug norovirus.
Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, which runs the city’s Royal Hallamshire, Northern General, Weston Park and Jessop maternity hospitals, said cases had started to increase, although exact numbers have not been disclosed.
The trust’s chief nurse and chief operating officer, Hilary Chapman, said: “We are really asking the public for their help in preventing the spread of this nasty winter bug. We are asking visitors only to visit if it is absolutely necessary in a bid to minimise the risk of the bug coming into wards from people in the community.
“If possible they should use alternative methods of contact.”
