Please look after this bunny: Giant rabbit with wonky leg abandoned in town centre

The white rabbit, weighing in at 5.1kgs, was handed into an animal hospital in Grimsby after being found huddled in a cardboard box in the town centre, with a note claiming the creature had a broken leg and his owners couldn’t afford the vet’s bills.

Nurses at the Blue Cross animal hospital were sotaken by the lame lapin they nicknamed him Nivens McTwisp - after the white rabbit in the film version of Alice in Wonderland.

Nivens was discovered in Grimsby at around 8.30pm on July 24. The accompanying note appears to have been written by a child, it reads: “This rabbit has been dropped, we think its leg may be broken.

“We are sorry we can’t look after, we aren’t capable. We hope it is ok.”

The note is unsigned.

Despite clearly having a ‘wonky leg’ vets say Nivens is pretty nippy, so to stop him from getting lost staff at the hospital take him out on a lead, not unlike a dog, which he loves.

According to surgery staff, Nivens is a laid-back tame rabbit who loves cuddles, hopping around on the grass and going out on walks.

Unlike Bugs Bunny, Nivens doesn’t like carrots but is content to munch on kale, swede, apples and grass.

His x-rays show that his leg issue is either an abnormality he was born with or a very old injury he has just adapted to.

Staff say it cant be fixed, but as Nivens McTwisp seems content enough on his lead to walk about and not in any pain they are fine for him to go off to a Blue Cross re-homing centre in a day or two, where a new home, with a loving

family, will be found for him.
