Plot case dropped against detective

A SERVING West Yorkshire detective will not face trial on a conspiracy charge after the prosecution was dramatically dropped at the last minute.

Wasim Bashir, 39, was due to appear at Sheffield Crown Court alongside another man, Mohammed Ahmed, 36, but no evidence was brought against them.

Both had been charged under the 1835 Statutory Declarations Act of conspiring to make a false declaration. They denied the accusation.

The court heard the charges related to information passed by Mr Ahmed to Mr Bashir, who was a detective constable in West Yorkshire's Homicide and Major Enquiry Team.

It related to an investigation into the murder of 21-year-old Shazad Talib Hussain, who was shot dead in Amberley Street, Bradford in 2004.

No comment was available last night from either the CPS or West Yorkshire Police.
