Plucky swimmers brave cold waters to blow off the cobwebs for the New Year

Hundreds of spectators lined the banks of the River Wharfe to watch plucky participants take to the waters for a ten metre paddle.

The dip in the market town was held in memory of lifesaving Yeadon teacher Joe Town who had organised the event for more than 25 years.

Swimmers also braved the freezing pool and took to the waters at the historic spa of White Wells, in Ilkley.

Residents in Leeds donned their fancy dress and made a big splash to celebrate the official re-opening of Bramley Baths.

Dozens of people made waves at the Grade II listed building in Bramley, Leeds, to mark a new era for the historic baths.

Determined campaigners spent over a year trying to save the community facility after plans were revealed to close it.

The newly formed Bramley Baths Community Ltd received the keys to the historic pool, which dates back to 1904, last month.

Ownership of the facility transferred from the council to the community group to run the swimming pool and gym on a 25-year lease.
