Poet Laureate in festival line-up

POET Laureate Carol Ann Duffy will be among the headline acts at Hull’s Humber Mouth literature festival next month.

The Glasgow-born writer will be performing with a band she has heaped praise on, LiTTLe MACHiNe, at the Ferens Art Gallery on Saturday, November 16.

The group set classic poems to music.

Other stars appearing at the 10-day festival include Chuck Palahniuk, author of Fight Club, which was turned to a hit film featuring Brad Pitt.

He will be flying in from America to talk about his new book, Damned, at Middleton Hall, Hull University, on November 15.

Hull MP Alan Johnson will read from his highly acclaimed biography, This Boy, at Pave in Princes Avenue on Sunday, November 17.

The festival, supported by the city council, begins on November 8 and will be held at venues across Hull.

Programme director Shane Rhodes said: “We have got a fantastic calibre of writers coming to this year’s festival.

“The programme features an eclectic and exciting mix of genres which will cater for lovers of poetry, crime writing, cult novels, music, travel and more.”
