Police against all-night 'drinkathon'

POLICE have objected to an all-night "drinkathon" at a cocktail bar which could attract hundreds of Easter revellers.

The application is for alcohol to be served from 9pm to 6am over Sunday/Monday, April 4/5 at Lush Bar and Club in Fountain Street, Halifax.

But a report by West Yorkshire Police licensing officer, David Drucquer, for Calderdale's licensing sub committee, says: "The Police object to this application...

"The reasons are the nature of the event. It is shown as a DJ Set. This could attract large numbers. No provisions have been show for security staff or any means as to entry, control or payment, prepaid ticket or otherwise.

"It will be an all-night event ending at 6am where alcohol will be available." Many people could be under the influence of alcohol and crime and disorder could result, he said.

Many attempts had been made to contact the applicant, Nicholas Bouckley, but they were unsuccessful, he added.

A meeting of Calderdale's licensing sub committee today will decide whether to grant the temporary event notice.

Mr Bouckley was not available for comment.
