Police appeal after dramatic M1 crash in Leeds

Police are appealing for witnesses following a collision near to Junction 46 of the M1 in Leeds.

The incident occurred around 10.25am on Saturday as a white Ford Focus was travelling along Selby Road, from Garforth when it is believed to have lost control and travelled across the grassed roundabout above the M1 motorway at Junction 46.

It then crashed through the barriers and falling down the embankment to the motorway carriageway and overturning.

The driver, a 33-year-old man, was rescued from the vehicle by the Fire Service, and was taken to Leeds General Infirmary by Ambulance.

He was treated for serious injuries which are now not believed to be life-threatening.

PC Michelle Yule, of the Safer Roads and Neighbourhoods Support Team, said; “This incident has occurred in the early part of the day, when there will have been a number of people using the local roads who may have seen either the vehicle prior to the incident, or who may have seen the incident itself and I would urge them to come forward.

“Enquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances of what took place.”
