Police appeal after woman assaulted near York pub

A woman was assaulted in the street by a man who grabbed her by the neck near a city pub.

Police have launched an appeal for witnesses to come forward following the incident at around 8pm on July 11 on Bishopthorpe Road, York, near the Winning Post pub.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "The victim was talking to a man who is believed to then have grabbed her by the neck and attempted to kiss her.

"The victim was left extremely shaken following the incident."

Police said the suspect was a white man in his 30s, of average build, with a beard and short-spiked light brown hair. He was wearing a white t-shirt and bottoms.

Witnesses are asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101.
