Police appeal over mystery collision
as man fights for his life in hospital

POLICE are urgently appealing for information after a man who walked into a hospital saying he had been hit by a car was left fighting for his life.

The 57-year-old was admitted to Hull Royal Infirmary on Saturday, after saying he had been thrown over the bonnet in the accident.

He was treated for his injuries, but his condition deteriorated and he is now fighting for his life in a medically-induced coma at Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham.

Officers have checked three locations that the man mentioned to hospital staff but have no record of any accidents there. Police are now appealing for help in finding out what happened to him.

Inspector Paul Sergeant said: “We need anyone who may have information to come forward as we need to know what happened to this man and where it happened.

“Due to the condition of the injured man we have not been able to speak to him and we are only able to investigate the information he has given to hospital staff.

“We need people to come forward who may have seen something that could have resulted in a man, matching his description, sustain some form of injury. It might have been a road traffic collision, he might have been assaulted, but also it is just as feasible that he could have fallen over.

“We have investigated three potential locations where we have been advised the collision could have happened, but at this time CCTV footage does not indicate a collision having taken place.”

The collision, which the man linked to locations in Castle Street, Carr Lane, and Anlaby Road, is thought to have happened between 9 and 10am on Saturday.

The man is from Hull and has short grey hair. He was wearing a knee-length dark cream coat and dark trousers and carrying a rucksack.
