POLICE have arrested a foster father on suspicion of abducting a four-year-old boy in his care.

Darren Langton, 40, was detained by Lincolnshire Police at the weekend before being bailed pending further inquiries.

He is understood to have been arrested on Friday evening, a day after the boy’s foster mother, Marcia Langton, was arrested over the same alleged offence.

Mrs Langton, 46, has also now been released on police bail.

The couple went missing from an address in Skegness last Tuesday after Newham Council, in London, took action to return four-year-old Kanan to local authority care. He has now been returned to London after being found safe and well with Mrs Langton.

Kanan had been living with the Langtons at their previous home in Doncaster for 16 months, with a view to an adoption.

Mr Langton was recently fined for an assault on a neighbour in Doncaster and is understood to be facing a second court case over a dispute. He had been bailed to an address in Skegness from where the couple disappeared.

Newham Council said “serious concerns” had prompted it to seek Kanan’s return.

It is not known if the court cases prompted the concerns but the couple had also reported an alleged campaign of racial harassment to Doncaster Council earlier this year. They alleged this included harassment from the two brothers who went on to commit a savage attack on two boys in Edlington last year and who lived nearby.

Doncaster Council, which has been the subject of government intervention over failures in its care of vulnerable children, has declined to comment.
