'Police assault' video studied

YORKSHIRE'S largest police force has alerted its complaints watchdog after a video on the internet allegedly showed an officer twice striking a young football fan in the face.

Footage on YouTube appears to show a West Yorkshire Police officer hitting the spectator during crowd trouble at Saturday's play-off between Huddersfield Town and Millwall.

The video, recorded at Huddersfield's Galpharm Stadium, prompted the force to refer the incident to its professional standards department.

But the watchdog has not begun a formal investigation because it has yet to receive a complaint from the fan.
