Police attacked over £72,000 manager’s post

HUMBERSIDE Police have been criticised for advertising for a £72,000-a-year senior manager as the force is shedding officers.

Keith Hunter, who is seeking the Labour nomination to stand for the new elected police commissioner role for Humberside, said the public would question the spending on a new head of corporate development.

“I am sorry to say the force has shot itself in the foot over this. At a time when they need the support and understanding of the public to deliver the inevitably reduced service due to cuts, this announcement will create the opposite effect,” he said.

Mr Hunter, a former senior Humberside officer, said other avenues should have been investigated to save money.

Humberside Police declined to comment.
