Police back tourism promotion project

Police are helping visitors to West Yorkshire through a new scheme to promote the area.

Officers from the Ilkley Neighbourhood Policing Team are working with regional tourism body, Welcome to Yorkshire, to support a new drive to boost trade and tourism in West Yorkshire.

Chief Insp Steve Thomas, of Airedale and North Bradford Police, said: "Police officers are often a first point of call for new visitors to our area when seeking general help and we have always prided ourselves on being an open and welcoming face of our communities for newcomers.

"We are very pleased to support this scheme in Airedale and North Bradford Police and will do all we can to assist partners in trade and tourism and act as ambassadors for our area."

Police will be displaying Welcome to Yorkshire stickers in their vehicles and officers on patrol will also continue to provide essential information and to help visitors as well as signpost tourist facilities as part of the campaign.

This could include basic details such as where to find local police stations and tourist information to general guidance or directions for visitors to help them get about or find places of interest.

Ilkley was chosen by the force as a place to support the scheme because of its links with tourism and its ongoing popularity as a scenic destination.
