Police bang drum for Armed Forces

WOUNDED servicemen and women are to benefit from this year’s charity concerts by the Humberside Police Band.

The band, which is celebrating its 150th year, will perform twice at Hull University this week with proceeds going to Help for Heroes.

Band chairman, Det Chief Supt Richard Kerman, said: “The band has a long and proud tradition of performing at concerts and ceremonial occasions and raising money for good causes.

“We particularly enjoy the Christmas concerts as they bring together a wide section of the community in festive cheer.

“This year we will be raising money for Help for Heroes. We are sure the community will be thinking about our service personnel in Afghanistan who are separated from their families at Christmas as well as those who have been killed or seriously injured in this and other conflicts.

“I am sure everyone will support our aim to raise money for this worthwhile cause.”

The band has performed at countless civic occasions and events since 1861.

The concerts will take place at Middleton Hall on Thursday and Friday from 7.30pm.
