Police bid to put brakes on crime

MORE than 80 vehicles were checked in an operation in the Wakefield district to disrupt criminal activities.

The Wakefield North West Neighbourhood Policing Team joined forces with colleagues from the Divisional Roads Policing Unit, CID and Neighbourhood Enforcement to tackle issues in the Ossett, Horbury, Wrenthorpe, Outwood and Stanley areas.

Proceeds of crime and divisional response officers and police community support officers also took part in the action along with Customs and Excise and trading standards staff.

A total of 89 vehicles were stopped and checked. This resulted in:

n Four notices were given to drivers who had vehicle defects and a number of forms were issued for vehicle documents to be produced at police stations.

n One person was given an instant fine and penalty points for having no insurance.

n One vehicle was seized for being used without insurance.

“All in all it was a really good operation,” said Insp Sally Fryer. “There was also some significant intelligence gathered which we hope to be able to put to good use.”
