Police are investigating reports of another shooting in South Yorkshire.

Officers were called to Parson Cross estate, Sheffield, and sealed off Southey Hill and Adlington Road after residents heard what they believed to be gunshots.

South Yorkshire Police said yesterday there was “no evidence at this stage to substantiate the report” but enquiries were ongoing.

The call-out was the second firearms-related incident the force has dealt with in two days.

Two men aged 27 and one aged 24 were arrested in the early hours of Thursday after a shooting in Barnsley town centre.

Officers were called to Wellington Street at 2.05am to find a blank firing pistol had been discharged. No one was injured.

Anyone with information about the Parson Cross incident on Wednesday is asked to contact police on 101.
