The report said: “With the changes to the staff have come new ideas and practices from their experience in other departments.

“These are now beginning to have an impact on the departmental performance and on the number of complaints being received, as the new staff are focusing on identifying areas of our work which tend to lead to complaints, and thereafter focusing on complaint reduction.”

A spokeswoman added: “The police authority welcomes the report highlighting a fall in the number of complaints against Humberside Police.

“This nine per cent reduction demonstrates that, in spite of the current financial constraints, the chief constable and his team are working hard to continuously identify areas of improvement while ensuring the best possible service is provided to local people.”
