Police find new leads in hunt for Jo's killer

On Friday night, detectives retraced the steps Miss Yeates took on December 17 as she made her way home from a Christmas drink with work colleagues at a pub in Bristol city centre to her flat in Canynge Road, Clifton. Her body was found on Christmas morning.

Officers spoke to more than 200 people in the Ram pub and in the streets surrounding her flat and say they will now be following up several new leads that emerged.

Police are also planning a reconstruction which will be aired on the BBC programme Crimewatch later this month.

Miss Yeates's family have paid heartfelt tributes as they joined the renewed appeals for help to catch her killer.

Speaking publicly for the first time, her brother Chris, 28, said her death had left him in a "surreal hole of despair".

And parents David, 63, and Theresa, 58, spoke of the daily trauma they have endured since their daughter was snatched and dumped in a country lane.

On Saturday, a book of condolences was opened in her memory at her local church and an appeal for information was also made to Bristol City FC fans.

Players donned T-shirts and messages were relayed over the public address system ahead of the club's FA Cup third-round clash with Sheffield Wednesday.

Club chairman Steve Landsdown said: "When something like this happens in the heart of the community, it's important everyone pulls together to help."
