Police funds for community projects

COMMUNITY projects which tackle South Yorkshire’s policing priorities can access a share of £190,000.

South Yorkshire Police Authority is asking voluntary organisations and community groups to put forward an application for funding as part of its community grants scheme.

Grants from £30,000 to £50,000 are available to projects which address at least one of the priorities from the local policing plan, such as improving public confidence and satisfaction, enhancing community safety, reducing serious and organised crime and protecting South Yorkshire from terrorism and extremism.

Charles Perryman, chairman of the authority, said: “With the ongoing cuts to budgets more community groups will be looking at additional revenue streams to bolster their funding.

“The police authority is not immune from the cuts, but we felt the community grants scheme remains vital in supporting projects which can make a real difference to local people across South Yorkshire.

Groups have until Friday, April 29 to submit a grant application and forms are available on- line.
