Coun Ghazanfer Khaliq, Bradford Council's executive member for environment and sustainability, said: "There is a problem all over the country of parents driving and parking illegally around schools.

"This is a light-hearted way to engage with the local community and inform parents of the dangers and help them realise that everyone has a part to play in keeping children safe."

The children were on the lookout for offences including stopping or dropping off on yellow zig-zag lines, failing to wear seatbelts and using mobile phones when driving.

Sergeant Andy Barron said: "Bradford Roads Policing Team has investigated a number of pedestrian knock downs in recent years, many of which have involved children of primary school age.

"Poor parental supervision and a disregard to road safety when supervising young children can be equally as devastating as a speeding car."
