Police given go-ahead for new divisional HQs

THE Home Office has given police chiefs in West Yorkshire permission to continue with plans for two new divisional headquarters and a specialist operational training facility.

It has endorsed the decision to give 216m of credits under the Government's Private Finance Initiative (PFI) to West Yorkshire Police Authority and West Yorkshire Police.

Last night Coun Les Carter, deputy police authority chair, said he was "delighted that the new coalition government has announced their full support of this project".

The two headquarters will be at Elland Road, Leeds, and Havertop Lane, Normanton. The new operational training centre, in Wakefield, will include firearms training ranges.
