Police to home in on Man Utd shirts

MANCHESTER United fans living in Scunthorpe are being warned not to wear club shirts if they have tickets for the home end for tomorrow's Carling Cup clash at Glanford Park.

Fans sporting United shirts will be denied entry to the Scunthorpe sections of the ground, and face being escorted out if they manage to get in.

Sgt Paul Hurrell said: "To minimise disruption, it has been agreed by both Humberside Police and Scunthorpe United that those attending the match in the home ends will not be allowed to wear Manchester United shirts.

"Anyone seen to be wearing a Manchester United shirt in the Scunthorpe United ends will not be allowed in or escorted out of the ground."

Police are also warning fans without tickets to stay away from the game.

Chief Insp Simon Walker said: "Humberside Police have been advised by Manchester United that there are a potential group of ticket touts that may travel to the area of Scunthorpe.

"The match is a sell-out and tickets will not be issued on the day or at any time before the match."
