Police identify men found dead in car filled with chemicals

POLICE have identified two men found dead in a car that had apparently been filled with chemicals.

The pair, who are thought to be aged between 20 and 30, were found in a red car by a jogger in an isolated lane near the River Humber just after 7am on Friday.

The men have not been named but one is thought to be from North East Lincolnshire and the other from the West Midlands, and officers have spoken to both families. It has yet to be established how the men came to know each other.

Post mortem examinations to find out how they died are due to be carried out today.

Signs had been placed on the vehicle warning it contained hazardous chemicals.

A specialist response team from the emergency services was deployed to make it safe before paramedics could get in to assess the men, who were pronounced dead at the scene in Booth Nooking Lane, Winteringham, North Lincolnshire.

Tests are also being carried out on the car, which was initially suspected of containing household chemicals.

Police said there was no risk to the public and community support officers have been delivering leaflets in the village to reassure residents.

Chief Insp Simon Walker, of Humberside Police, thanked residents for their reaction to the find.

He said: “People may have been overwhelmed by the number of emergency vehicle from all three services but there was no threat whatsoever to anybody’s health or wellbeing.

“We’d like to thank them for their patience; it is normally a fairly quiet village.”
