Police inquiry to look into robbery links

POLICE patrols are being stepped up in a North Yorkshire town after a 72-year-old woman was robbed, the second such mugging this month.

North Yorkshire Police detectives are investigating if the robbery is linked to another offence that happened less than a fortnight ago in Selby. The latest attack happened at about 7.15am yesterday when the pensioner was walking across the green area of Garden Court after buying her morning paper.

The robber pushed her in her back and snatched her purse from her hand, which contained cash and personal items. The victim, who was not injured but left “very shocked”, screamed and a number of people came to her assistance and called the police.

A woman, 59, also had her purse stolen while walking in Wren Lane in Selby at about 9.30am on October 9.
