POLICE are investigating a claim that a city councillor grappled with a caf manager in a row over the future of a council estate.

Debbie Moore, 38, made the claims against Coun Mary Glew after an alleged dispute over the proposed transfer of 1,175 council properties in Bransholme, Hull, to a social landlord.

It is alleged the incident occurred after an argument broke out over whether Coun Glew could display posters objecting to the transfer in Ms Moore’s caf.

Coun Glew strenuously denies the allegations and said: “I saw my solicitor and went with my solicitor to the police station and I have given my account of what happened to the police, and as I say there is absolutely no truth in the allegations.

“They showed me details of the allegations. They are just collating my witness statements and we have just got to wait and see.”

She added: “It’s absolutely farcical. I don’t know this woman from Adam.”

Ms Moore, who runs Double Dee’s caf and deli in Grampian Way, Bransholme, claims she was left with a bruised leg and has made a complaint to police.

“I’m hoping it’s not going to be brushed under the carpet,” she said.

Humberside Police confirmed they were investigating an allegation of assault last Saturday.

A spokesman said: “It is alleged a 38-year-old woman received a bruise to her thigh following an alleged assault by another woman. No one has been arrested at this time.”

Hull Council said: “The council has heard an allegation that a councillor assaulted a member of the public. However, we have not received any information to confirm this.”
