Police investigate crash that left bus embedded in house

A bus was left embedded in the side of a house after it collided with a car and came off the road.

Derbyshire Police are investigating the incident at about 1pm yesterday which involved a Trent Barton bus and a silver Ford Ka in Long Eaton, Derbyshire.

Homeowner Gordon Plummer was in the lounge of the semi-detached house when he heard a sound like a “loud explosion”.

He told the BBC: “I was in the Blitz in Sheffield, so I was quite used to all these explosions.

“I leapt up, opened the lounge door and, much to my horror, the whole of the passageway and the stairs was blocked by rubble.”

The damage to the property in Beresford Road will need to be assessed by a structural engineer before the bus is removed.

A spokeswoman for Derbyshire Police said the bus is believed to have collided with a silver Ford Ka, then left the road.

The drivers of both vehicles received minor injuries which did not need hospital treatment while a passenger on the bus was uninjured.
