POLICE have been distributing posters and leaflets in their latest appeal for information after an attack on the home of an elderly couple in York.
Officers have been trying to allay residents’ fears after the arson attack on Friday night, when a petrol bomb was thrown through the couple’s living room window, causing a blaze which badly damaged the home of the couple, aged 71 and 81.
Detectives are investigating the possibility the pensioners, who have been left “deeply distressed and shocked”, were targeted in a case of mistaken identity.
Inspector Rich Ball said: “This sickening and cowardly incident has had a big impact on the local community. People are outraged about the ordeal this innocent and elderly couple have been through and demanding that those responsible are brought to justice as quickly as possible. We are distributing leaflets and posters in the area to help jog people’s memories for information that could assist the inquiry.”
