Police make urgent plea for the public's help after gunshots fired in Huddersfield street

Detectives investigating a firearms discharge in Huddersfield at the weekend are continuing to appeal for witnesses.

Police have recovered a gun and have arrested three teenagers, aged 16, 17 and 18, after shots were fired on Great Northern Street on Saturday (July 14) at around 5.40pm.

Two vehicles were damaged but no-one was injured as a result of the incident

All three of the teenagers who were taken into police custody over the weekend have now been released pending further investigation and police enquiries are ongoing.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Gibson, of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team at West Yorkshire Police, said: “Our investigation into the firearms discharge in Huddersfield at the weekend remains ongoing.

“I would like to appeal to members of the public who may have been driving in and out of the area, especially in the Lower Fitzwilliam Street area, near to the Great Northern Retail Park and Leeds Road.

“There was a high volume of people in the area at the time and I would urge people to come forward with any information to assist with our enquiries.”
