Police name woman, 25, found dead in York home

A woman whose body was discovered in a York home has been named by police.

Claire Lucas, 25, from York, was found dead inside the property in Fourth Avenue, at 1pm on July 2.

Officers had been concerned for her welfare.

North Yorkshire Police launched a murder investigation following her death, and a 35 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder shortly after.

He has since been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.

Detectives are continuing to investigate Miss Lucas' death, and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Pearson said: “Following the discovery of a body inside a property on Fourth Avenue in York last month we are now in a position to confirm that it was sadly 25-year-old Claire Lucas from York.

“Enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding Claire’s death and we continue to appeal to anyone who has any information to contact us, no matter how insignificant it may seem.

“Did you speak to Claire in the days before her death? Did you see anything untoward on Fourth Avenue on the evening of Saturday 30 June or in the early hours of Sunday 1 July? If so, we would urge you to come forward.

“Our thoughts are with Claire’s family at this difficult time and I would ask for their privacy to be respected.”
