Police to patrol park in bid to cut vandalism

POLICE have stepped up patrols of a park after a wave of vandalism caused extensive damage.

The latest attack was one of a series at Ulley Country Park in Rotherham.

Vandals have stolen outboard motors from a container at the park’s reservoir which is the base of Ulley Sailing Club.

Coun John Swift, whose area includes the country park, said: “What happened to the boating club has set them back 10 years and now this latest damage has happened.

“It is disgraceful that vandals should wreck a very popular country park and the facilities provided by the friends of the park especially at the height of the holiday season when the park is at its busiest.

“They also created a serious life threatening situation by removing the lifebuoys.”

A Friends of Ulley Country Park spokesman said police were now stepping up patrols of the park and their dog handlers were visiting it for training exercises in a bid to deter the vandals.
