Police patrols target rogue bikers after vehicle seizures

Police have stepped up patrols in north Bradford in a clampdown on rogue riders.

Local residents have been urged to report anti-social motorbike or quad riders this summer.

Officers from the North Bradford neighbourhood policing team (NPT) are asking people to pass on any information they may have to help officers seize machines and take appropriate action.

Police have stepped up patrols in popular areas used by off-road bikers in north Bradford and have made regular seizures of illegal machines over recent months.

An off-road bike was recently seized by police after it was allegedly seen being ridden on Kipping Lane without insurance or an MOT by a rider not wearing a helmet.

The rider now faces court action as a result of the alleged offence and could face a driving ban.

Sergeant Dave Williams, of the North Bradford NPT, said: “We do have powers to seize illegal off-road vehicles and will do all we can to take these machines from our open spaces.

“We also need the help of residents, however, to let us know where to focus resources and to build up the evidence we need to take action against those responsible.”

Officers from north Bradford have also combined forces with colleagues in Eccleshill over the past few months to target those riding illegally and causing distress to others across the two NPT areas.

Pc Mike Laycock said those caught using off road machines illegally would face strict penalties.

He said: “The police will seize motorbikes and cars being used unlawfully and prosecute any offenders.”

If people suspect that off-road bikes are being ridden illegally in their areas, they are advised to provide as many details as possible to the police – ideally these should include the name of rider as well as registration numbers or a detailed description of both rider and bike.

Residents are also urged to keep records of times, dates and locations of when the vehicles are being used to help officers locate offenders.

Photographs are also useful, say the officers.

Anyone who is experiencing nuisance bike use in their area can contact the North Bradford NPT on 01274 475272.
