Police probe power cable theft

POLICE are investigating after thieves cut down overhead power lines in Eggborough, near Selby, leaving a number of homes without electricity.

Around 300 metres of 440 volt overhead power cables were stolen from Station Row Lane, near the Jolly Miller pub, at 9.30pm on Tuesday.

A row of houses were affected by the theft, leaving a number of elderly residents without power and in total darkness.

Three suspects were seen running from the scene. Thieves are believed to have used a vehicle, possibly a van, to transport the cable.

Officers from North Yorkshire Police are appealing to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area around the time of the incident to call 101.
