Police put shoplifters’ faces online

POLICE are urging the public to “shop a shoplifter” as part of a new initiative that has been launched on their website.

For the first in the series they have posted nine images of alleged thieves taken by CCTV cameras in shops round Hull. The pictures were taken between last October and this January.

The page will be updated so people can find out whether the suspects have been traced and new images will be uploaded.

Detective Sergeant Kevin Foster, who set up the project, said: “This is the public’s chance to help us identify alleged shop thieves who have been captured on CCTV cameras throughout Hull.

“These individuals have allegedly stolen from stores in the city but have so far evaded arrest.

“With your help I would like to change this and ensure shoplifters are dealt with for adversely affecting businesses in the city. I would urge everyone to visit the site and help us bring offenders to justice.”

The Shop a Shoplifter page is within the campaigns and initiative section of the Humberside Police website and can be seen at www.humberside.police.uk/current-campaigns-and-initiatives/shop-a-shoplifter.
