Police release CCTV of Dewsbury bank robbery

POLICE in Dewsbury today released CCTV footage of a bank robbery in a further appeal for witnesses.

The footage shows a security guard being robbed and cash stolen from him at the Dewsbury branch of HSBC on January 6 this year.

At around 2:15pm the male security guard was delivering cash inside the bank when a man approached him from behind and made a grab for a bag of money being removed from a cashbox. The suspect was able to run from the bank with the bag, that contained around £25,000 in cash.

The suspect and two accomplices drove off at speed from Bond Street in Dewsbury town centre in a silver car, believed to be a VW Passat. They made a U-turn on Dewsbury Ring Road in front of Dewsbury railway station where they collided with a red car, causing minor damage before making off.

A VW Passat was later found abandoned in the Meadow Lane area of Dewsbury.

It was stolen from the Tudor Croft area of Huddersfield on the 30 December 2010.

Det Con Richard Proud of Dewsbury CID said: “The CCTV we are releasing shows that this robbery took place in a busy bank at a busy time of the day. It shows how the suspect went into the bank before the security guard, who he then attacks before running off with the stolen money.
