Police say tissue find vindicates continuing search of River Aire

POLICE looking for the bodies of murdered prostitutes in Bradford say the discovery of tissue belonging to one of them vindicates their decision to concentrate their efforts on the River Aire.

Yesterday it was revealed that material discovered in the river at the weekend belongs to Shelley Armitage, 31, who disappeared from Bradford city centre in April. A senior police source said of the breakthrough: "It was in a separate bag and it's a relatively small piece of tissue.

"It demonstrates that the work that we are doing in this area is fully justified and it looks like we are on the right track.''

PhD student Stephen Griffiths, 40, has been charged with the murder of three prostitutes but so far only the remains of Suzanne Blamires, 36, and now a fragment of Miss Armitage's body has been recovered.

Police underwater searches will continue in the River Aire at Shipley to locate all of the remains of Miss Armitage and Susan Rushworth, 43.

EastEnders is to reshoot parts of a storyline involving preacher Lucas Johnson in the wake of the tragedy

During episodes scheduled to be broadcast next week, Lucas, played by Don Gilet, was to have been seen visiting a red light district and picking up a girl named Jade before seemingly strangling her with his tie.
