Police search river for missing York man

Ben Clarkson, 22, has not been seen since leaving Fibbers Nightclub on Stonebow in the early hours. He was wearing dark skinny jeans, a grey T-shirt with an Eiifel Tower logo and dark pumps with white trim and white toe caps.

A team from an underwater unit are carrying out searches of the River Foss, between the Iron Bridge, Huntington Road and the Foss Basin.

The search comes just two days after the body of student Megan Roberts was pulled from the River Ouse in York. Megan, 20, had been missing since January 27.

Police said today they were “extremely concerned” for Ben’s safety, after carrying out searches of his route home and examining CCTV screens.

Inspector Jo Brooksbank, of York Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “I ask anyone who saw Ben after the time he was last seen or has any information about his current whereabouts, to contact the police as a matter of urgency.”
