Police search rivers after student vanishes on night out

Jonathan Havron, from Huntington, York, was believed to have been in The Artful Dodger pub, on Micklegate, until the early hours of Saturday morning but has not been seen since.

North Yorkshire Police said they believed Mr Havron's disappearance was "completely out of character" and added that they were growing increasingly concerned for his safety.

A force spokeswoman said searches of the River Ouse and River Foss were being carried out by police and fire crews today.

Mr Havron was last seen by his friends in Yates's wine bar, in the city centre, at 9.30pm on Friday but was later believed to have visited The Artful Dodger.

He is described as 5ft 8in and of slim build with collar-length, dark-brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a white shirt, a black leather jacket and dark, walking-type boots.

The spokeswoman said: "Police believe this to be completely out of character for Jonathan and are urging anyone who may have seen him on Friday night or has any information of his whereabouts to contact them as a matter of urgency."

Mr Havron's family described him as a "happy student" and said his disappearance was "extremely unusual".

The teenager's mother, Joanne Wigmore, and 24-year-old sister, Nikita Ashby, appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

They said: "This is completely out of character for Jonathan. We know he would contact us if he was able to and so we are extremely worried.

"If anyone knows anything at all, no matter how small you may think the piece of information is, please contact the police."

The family said Mr Havron enjoys nights in with his friends, playing on his Xbox, reading and listening to music.

He is studying uniformed services at Bishop Burton College, East Yorkshire, and wants to join the Territorial Army and the police.

"Jonathan has a 100% attendance record at college and so this is extremely unusual for him to be missing like this," they said.
