Police seek help in hunt for woman

POLICE have appealed for volunteers to join the search for a missing woman who has Alzheimer’s disease.

Marlene Wagstaff, 77, has not been seen since leaving home in Withernsea Road, Withernsea, to go for a walk last Friday.

Officers say they are becoming increasingly concerned for Mrs Wagstaff’s welfare because of her age and condition and have not managed to locate her despite large-scale searches.

Sergeant Dave Jenkins, of Withernsea Neighbourhood policing team, said: “We are working hard to try and locate Mrs Wagstaff. A search team has been put together which includes the police helicopter, mounted section, underwater search team and officers on foot searching through Withernsea and the surrounding areas.

“We know that Mrs Wagstaff is a keen walker and therefore we are appealing for dog walkers, horse riders and residents in the area to be vigilant and report any possible sightings of Marlene to the police.

“The area around Withernsea is very rural and we are inviting anyone that has some time to spare to come and assist us in this search.”

Anyone who can take part in the search is asked to call officers on 0845 606 0222, .
