Detectives are trying to find out more about his lifestyle and friendships to discover why someone would want to cause him harm.

The senior detective on the murder investigation, Detective Superintendent Paul Taylor, of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said very little was known about Mr Driver. His next of kin has not been traced.

Mr Taylor said: "We want to know where Mr Driver was in the time leading up to his death. The last confirmed sighting we have of him is on Saturday. We also need to know what sort of person he was and why anyone would want to harm him."

A rumour that Mr Driver had recently come into some money would be investigated.

"We often find there are a lot of rumours during these investigations. We would like to hear those rumours which we will investigate."

Neighbours described Mr Driver as a "polite" man who enjoyed the company of his Rottweiler dog, Samson, and two cats but they said he led a chaotic lifestyle which involved heavy drinking and possible drug taking which affected his mental health.

Neighbour Christine Scott, 59, said: "I feel very sad that his life has ended like this. I think he was lonely, he rarely opened his curtains but he loved his dog and two cats."
