Police team formed to tackle yob behaviour

A specialist police team has been formed to tackle anti social behaviour in Bradford.

The team, which consists of a sergeant and six constables, will focus on issues which affect the quality of life for residents and shoppers in the city centre.

Bradford South Chief Inspector Kevin Pickles said it would be particularly important over the summer holidays.

Chief Inspector Pickles said: "This team has been formed to ensure that Bradford South has the capacity to deal with all manner of calls from the public. They will provide a specialist delivery right across the Bradford South area with specific responsibility for public order and anti social behaviour in the city centre.

"The officers will be working in partnership with the city Neighbourhood Policing Team to share information and to quickly act upon it.

"It is important that we are able to focus our resources in this way, especially over the school summer holidays when the number of calls around anti- social behaviour tends to increase."

The team was formed after police heard the views of people living in south Bradford.

Chief Inspector Pickles said: "The formation of the team is another step in the work that is already being done with our partners to tackle issues such as anti social behaviour.

"People in the Bradford South area have told us in public meetings what they would like to see happen and this is a direct response to that."

Sergeant Roger Moore, who will be leading the team, said: "We want to make sure people in Bradford can go about their daily business and these officers are highly trained to deal with all situations whether it be aggressive begging, drinking in the street or large public numbers.

"Any form of anti-social behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Those who commit it will be subject to positive intervention and could face Anti Social Behaviour Orders, Acceptable Behaviour Contracts or even court."
