Police team up with rangers against anti-social behaviour

EFFORTS are being made to tackle anti-social behaviour in parks and green spaces in an area of Leeds over the spring and summer months.

The Morley Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) and rangers from Leeds City Council's Parks Watch have teamed up to tackle under-age drinking and other issues and will carry out patrols in Morley.

They aim to engage with any young people found to be involved in anti-social behaviour and will also take action against any problems caused where appropriate.

Sgt Nick Haigh of Morley NPT said: "Officers treat all forms of anti-social behaviour as policing priorities all year round because local people across the area have told us they want these issues dealing with in this way.

"It's particularly important at this time of year because more and more people want to make use of the parks and green spaces, and the last thing they want is their fun spoiled by anti-social behaviour.

"We already run several operations to tackle these problems during the lighter nights because that is when these issues tend to increase, but by working closely with the park rangers we can have an even greater impact."

The council's executive member for community safety and chairman of Safer Leeds, Les Carter, said: "Anti-social behaviour creates real misery for people and it's important that we continue to look at ways we can work together to combat it.
