Police treat for upset burglary victim, 4

Police community support officers, Christian Littlewood and Sharon Harrison, arranged for Alex Chapman to visit his local police and fire station to help overcome his anxiety over the incident.

Mr Littlewood of the Tong and Wyke Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "Alex had returned with his mother to their home in Tong to find they had been burgled. Quite understandably, this was very upsetting for all concerned and had a particular impact on Alex.

"When we learnt that he was having some trouble coming to terms with the incident, we decided to see if there was something we could do to help."

"We therefore arranged for him to visit both Trafalgar House Police Station and also Odsal Fire Station over the weekend.

"We also introduced him to some of the officers who work to keep him safe and explained the way in which the police operate. This included a look inside some of the vehicles we use and also demonstration of the fingerprint process.

"Hopefully, this one-off visit will have restored some of his confidence."

Alex's mother Dawn thanked officers for what they had done.

She said: "Since the visit, Alex feels much safer at home and is reassured that the police are protecting him. The police have demonstrated a very caring and understanding side to the difficult job they do, so a very positive experience has come from a negative one."
